《走进巴别塔》讲述关于一部伟大的艺术作品、一对非凡的夫妻以及一代人的传奇经历的故事,获得悉尼2024年国际电影节纪录片大奖。

 

影片主角艺术家沈嘉蔚的人生充满跌宕起伏。他曾是红极一时的知青画家,创作的《为我们伟大祖国站岗》受到江青青睐;移居澳洲后,他从零开始,在悉尼达令港为游客画像谋生;1995年他的作品获得罗马教皇亲自颁奖,命运再次发生转折,他逐步成为澳洲著名艺术家……

然后他开始了一个看似疯狂的项目:用壁画的形式全景回顾国际共产主义运动。这幅命名为《巴别塔》的作品将有三层楼高,面积达130平方米。他坚信,《巴别塔》将赋予他的整个生命以意义。

影片跟踪拍摄了《巴别塔》的创作历程,其间,沈嘉蔚与同为艺术家的妻子王兰面对镜头共同回忆了他们所经历的那一段充满波折的中国历史。他们迥异的境遇和感受,折射出历史的复杂层面。

历时十余年,《巴别塔》终于建成。在沈嘉蔚位于海边的巨大画室的四面墙上,百年共运史上的无数名人、艺术杰作,爱恨与情仇栩栩如生地呈现出来。他深刻的激情和非凡的才华感动和震撼观众,艺术评论家John McDonald称他为20世纪历史画下了“终极惊叹号”。
